For all fans of the pop-punk genre, when The Story So Far announced their spring 2022 with that lineup, everyone was for sure in for a good time. Utah was in for a slight scare with it being spring but we were hit with snowfall the same day that they were kicking off the tour, however the weather didn’t stop any of the bands and we were assured that we were not going to miss out for the night.
Microwave started the night and I’ve been waiting for quite some time to catch them perform live again; the last time that I had seen them was in 2018/2019 when they had toured with Boston Manor. That time back then was my first time ever hearing and seeing them live and they became favorites since then, there were other fellow fans scattered throughout the crowd who were singing and jumping around. They even had fans at the barricade headbanging along, they fit more into the rock genre and even though they are a slight different from the rest of the bands they still fit perfectly on the lineup.
Mom Jeans is another one of those few bands that I’ve seen more times than I can count on one hand and most of the time it’s been by pure coincidence. However, the minute that I hear they’re on a lineup I know that it’s going to be a good set. From the minute that they step out on stage they always get the crowd riled up and excited for a rowdy set. Vocalist Eric Butler took time to address everyone in the crowd even though their set was on crunch time. “Thank you all so much for being here early to catch our set, we’re Mom Jeans. We’re extremely grateful to be here on tour with The Story So Far, back when we were wrapping up our songs before heading to the studio, we needed a practice space and that’s where the fellas from The Story So Far came in. We shared a practice space for two months and we just had a blast with them and it’s an absolute honor to be with them on this tour.”
The last openers of the night was Joyce Manor, now it’s been YEARS since I’ve seen them, I wasn’t the only one excited to see the band again. Most of the fans in attendance had finally made their way into the venue and the excited chatter throughout the crowd filled the room. They played a completely stacked set of seventeen songs with a variety of songs throughout their discography, they even played two of their newest songs for the first time live; Gotta Let It Go and Don’t Try. It was the highlight of their set and got everyone excited to be hearing new stuff from Joyce Manor.
The Story So Far stepped out on stage and they didn’t hold back one bit, they got everyone singing their hearts out as they opened with Clairvoyant for fans who have been following The Story So Far since the beginning or if you’re a newer fan. This tour is the perfect one to catch them on because their setlist has a variety of everything from their older stuff to their songs off of Proper Dose. Despite evolving in music they always have the sounds that will have mosh pits and crowd surfers throughout the entire night.
