Earlier this year The Maine embarked on their XOXO tour in celebration of their latest album, XOXO: From Love & Anxiety In Real Time and have been absolutely killing it. Salt Lake City, Utah was their last stop on the tour. Fans were eager to see The Maine again with many of them waiting outside the venue all day to be sure they got a good spot with it being a sold out show.
Charlotte Sands kicked off the night, her drummer took the stage first and he soaked up every second he had for a drum solo which got everyone cheering and clapping. By the time his solo ended, Charlotte strutted on stage with the biggest smile on her face and kicked off her set with Tantrum. Normally with an opener there’s usually only a handful of people who know the opener’s songs but tonight was very much different, everyone in the crowd knew who Charlotte was and was singing along to all of her songs. “Thank you all so much for coming out early and checking out my set and singing along with me! It’s the last day of the tour and I am so sad, it’s been an absolute dream touring with The Maine and I’m incredibly grateful I got to open for them every night.” Fans danced around on stage and continued to sing along the whole set, she ended with her most streamed song thanks to Tik Tok, Dress.
I went in having absolutely no idea who The Happy Fits were and having no idea what to expect, if I did have expectations they would’ve blown them completely out of the water. The band consisted of Ross Monteith on guitar and vocals, Luke Davis on drums, and the real kicker Calvin Langman on cello and vocals. I applaud Langman on his choice of instrument, especially over the fact that he didn’t stay sitting/standing in one spot; he was bouncing around on stage with his cello strapped to him and singing along. The Happy Fits was tons of fun to watch and experience with the way they bounced around each other, fans in the crowd were living for their energy and equally matched it. Their whole set they all had the biggest smiles on their faces. It was another memorable closing date for them just like Charlotte Sands.
Lastly, we got The Maine and I will encourage anyone and everyone to see The Maine live if given the chance, the reason being is because seeing this band live is more than just going to a show. They make it a whole experience, in a packed room of fans it felt like no one went unseen. During Numb Without You they had everyone get down low, even those up in the balcony they called out. John O’Callaghan, had said, “when the beat drops I want you all to let loose and go wild, forget everything that is going on outside of this building and enjoy this moment with us now.” I’ve seen The Maine so many times in the past and no matter how many times I have they truly never disappoint, their energy and performance gets better every time and they always make it a night to remember.
