Fit For An Autopsy’s headlining show was my first show back in 2022 and I was definitely beyond excited for this one. It was going to be a long and rowdy night with the entire six band line-up but it was going to be very well worth it.
We started the night with a local deathcore Salt Lake City band, A Traitor’s Last Breath. It was their first show back this year, from the start they got the crowd moving and opened up a mosh pit and had everyone headbanging, during the introduction of everyone in the band the vocalist, Steve welcomed his kid onto stage to help him out during one of the songs. Steve pointed out a couple of fans that they recognized from the stage and encouraged them to sing the lyrics with him, while those in the crowd who has never heard of the band before that night, he requested them to do at least one thing and that was to listen to their album, Adversaries. Right before their last song, a couple of fans were joking with them from the crowd and the vocalist responded with, “security. They’re making fun of me. I’m getting triggered, I need a safe place.” It got the crowd to laugh and the band had set a good impression on everyone. After they finished off their set the band had quickly moved their gear off the stage and joined the crowd for the rest of the night ready to get in on all the fun.
Great American Ghost followed after vocalist, Ethan Harrison stated how he’s been visiting Salt Lake City since he was seventeen years old and we have never disappointed them in general. They were thrilled to see the amazing turnout for a Wednesday night, it took them awhile to realize that it was Wednesday because being out on the road they lose all track of time. Despite the incredibly high stage, artists often get discouraged by and usually feel disconnected from the audience. That didn’t stop Harrison from jumping down from the stage and getting right up against the barricade with the rest of the fans. Scorch Path was dedicated to all of the hardcore fans, they wanted to see them get rowdy and get up to some weird shit go down in the pit. They had put on an amazing performance and kept the energy going from the kick off from A Traitor’s Last Breath.
Signs of the Swarm came on after and from the beginning stated how this set was going to be a short and quick one so we had to make every second count, and they had stayed true to their word. While not much was said in between songs it didn’t phase the experience for everyone in the crowd, they still had put on a crazy performance when they stated they were on their last song the crowd was disappointed but everyone was still understood before stepping off the stage the band encouraged everyone to stop by and say hello to them at the merch table at the end of the night and tipping the tour sound tech who was working hard every night to make all of the opening bands so amazing.
With three bands already playing, we were halfway through the night but we weren’t slowing down anytime soon. Enterprise Earth came on to keep the energy going and their setlist was a special one on this tour, they played all entirely new songs off of their new album, The Chosen. Vocalist Dan Watson said that the last time they were in Salt Lake City they played The Loading Dock and they saw more movement in the tiny venue than they did in this larger room. From the beginning to the end of their set they had the entire room shaking with the deep growls from Watson and the bass. When they played `` Where Dreams Are Broken” they required some crowd participation with horns in the air and the entire room splitting in half with a wall to wall circle pit. Before playing their last song they had a couple of ground rules for everyone, to not drink and drive and also seconded the idea of tipping their sound guy.
The last band to open up for Fit For An Autopsy and get anyone else in the crowd warmed up for them was Ingested, they welcomed anyone and everyone who has seen them before and those who had never seen them before. We got the pleasure of hearing their new song Rebirth that was being released that week and it’s definitely a great song. They had the entire crowd banging their heads, fists up in the air, and a circle pit that took up the back half of the room. It was another set that definitely felt like it flew by a little too fast but the band had definitely made it completely worth it.
Finally, we closed off the night with Fit For An Autopsy and there was a bit of a rough start, the band seemed to have a little trouble with the sound, even though it may have been a little frustrating for the band the crowd wasn’t phased by it in the slightest. Everyone that was right up against the barricade was head banging and they were rattling the entire night of the set. When they had called for a circle pit, it was the biggest I have seen the entire night with much more people than before. When the band had noticed someone was injured they immediately had stopped all music and wanted to make sure that they were alright, and made a quick statement that all they wanted was to make sure that everyone stayed safe the entire night.
There’s no doubt that it was a long night, but seeing that the show was the first for many this year it was completely worth it. All the bands had come on stage and gave it their all despite some of them having shortened set times.
