REVIEW: with confidence self-titled

Another amazing album release added to the day, celebrating the release of With Confidence’s third self-titled album. On this album we get to welcome Scotty Mac as an official guitarist for the group, he’s played guitar with the band in the past year during tours and during quarantine they announced the official addition. The band revealed to us that much of the album was recorded in Joshua Tree, California which is something very common with pop punk bands these days, right when as the world shut down and they chose to self-isolate themselves and get cracking to busting out songs and the rest followed along with recording it all at home in Australia.

The band continues on with their pop-punk vibe and from the start of the album with, What You Make It which came out as another added single to the lineup and it was nothing but pure, upbeat energy and coming in strong with the guitars. Big Cat Judgment Day which was the first ever single release when the album drop date was released reminded us of the quirky keyboard sound that the band had first shown us in their second studio-length album, Love and Loathing. Following after that single, we received Anything and Cult which really brought out the pop-punk angst and catchy choruses that is easily noted will be a crowd favorite once this band hits the road and starts to tour in this era. With this being a new era, we are now also hearing a different sound from Seeley himself as he adds on another sense of unique vibe to the songs with his expanded vocal range, which makes it all feel very raw and filled with so much emotion. On top of that, we get the added pleasure of hearing Scotty Mac and Josh Brozzesi coming up on harmonies behind him in a few of the songs to really bring it all together.

It wouldn’t be a true complete album with the slower songs that you add to the sad hour playlist and blast on high volume, following under this jurisdiction is Know You (708), Paper, and Atlanta. Songs that make you reflect on past life experiences to really connect with the song, it’s been something that the band has never failed at achieving. Lose closes out the album and it was a sound that made it the perfect way to close it out, it’s a song that starts off slow that makes you think, “oh so, we’re ending this on a sad note?” Only to pick up in the tempo as it progresses, it’s a song that makes you really see that the band is stepping out of their skin and being nothing but completely vulnerable and extending their hand to let it be known that they are here.

It sure has been a bit of a wait for this new With Confidence music but they didn’t disappoint while keeping up patiently waiting and it is safe to say they couldn’t anymore at this point. So channel in on that inner angst and connect with With Confidence and their new set of songs and memorize the catchy choruses and hope for a tour soon so we can be singing these lyrics at the top of our lungs with the band.
