REVIEW: halo by zonezero

In the five years since their initial formation in 2017, Ohio-based nu-metal band Zonezero have released quite a bit of material, including their 2020 debut EP “Strychnine Dream,” a live album at the end of that summer, and a plethora of singles. The band have begun 2022 by dropping their most recent track, titled “Halo.”

The band’s prominent nu-metal influences can be heard early on through the instrumentation leading the intro - notably, impressive drum fills and darker, heavier guitar and bass riffs. The verses are much more melodic in comparison, and the vocal performance has a raw and raspy tone that brings a lot of grit to the track. The melodies in the pre-chorus are very catchy, and that section transitions perfectly into a bigger chorus.

“Halo” brings a balanced mix of haunting instrumentation and intriguing melodies and is a solid radio rock and nu-metal track overall.
