This may be a completely biased opinion for my long history with the band but Don Broco has delivered one of the best albums from this year, if you think you’ve heard of the craziest rollouts from a band I think Don Broco might make you change your mind on that one. From the David Beckham “Instagram hack” to lead vocalist, Rob Damiani becoming a professional boxer over quarantine the band invested a lot for their new album, Amazing Things. I didn’t think the band could surprise me, but they certainly did.
We start off with Gumshield, the single that had all of the fan base believing that Rob Damiani had become a professional boxer within a couple months of quarantine, and his first actual fight was going to be with a well-known boxer. However, it only turns out that it ended being a rollout for the song and music video. In the pre-chorus we get a little rap moment from Damiani himself, which isn’t completely strange for the fact that we have heard them before and a catchy chorus led by drummer and vocalist, Matt Donnelly. We definitely hear a lot more from Matt Donnelly himself on the vocal side which I feel like is quite a nice change of pace. The chorus is catchy, it'll definitely get the crowd singing along at the top of their lungs. Moving into the second song off the album which became the first single for the new album, Manchester Super Reds No. 1 Fan. The prank that had all fans thinking that Don Broco’s Instagram account had been hacked and they were mass posting all sorts of pictures of David Beckham, soon we found that it was the roll out of their newest single which is a complete banger. With a chorus that’ll have your head banging and super catchy hooks from guitarist Si Delaney.
Swimwear Season is probably the track that surprised me the most. It starts off calm with the electronic tune with Donnelly’s vocals, I believe it’ll be quite the show to hear live starting off calm but as the song progresses the energetic hook. I can already see a crowd forming a perfect circle in the room and moshing right as the beat drops and hearing the screams from Donnelly and near the end getting a killer guitar riff where everyone just loses it and goes all out crazy. One True Prince is another crazy single off the album that got its stellar music video. It’s a song for all the feels, I’ve always applauded the band for their feels songs because it’s never too sad sounding they always have some type of fun electronic sound to them, it’s always the type of song that you really got to focus and listen to the listen to just know that it’s a sad song. The sad vibes don’t start there, since we’re already in our feels why not keep it going? We get Anaheim, we keep up the electronic sound and the slowed beat and even the slowed vocals from both Donnelly and Damiani which is very much different from what we’ve been used to in the past, but it is a nice change. It’s a song I’ll be hoping makes its way onto the setlist. The rest of the album is filled with straight bangers, there isn’t a single disappointing song off the album.
With the rollout of this album and struggling journey this band has done everything in their power to make sure that we get the absolute best from the band, from a variety of limited merch connecting to the album and multiple music videos. The band had wanted to guarantee that fans get all versions of the physical copies from cassettes, vinyls, and CD’s on the day that the album was released. However with it being tough times they had made the decision to push the album release date twice only to be disappointed with the news that no one would be getting those copies until next year, while the band was gutted and felt completely defeated they moved forward with the last release date and us fans were nothing but understanding and supportive the entire time. If you haven’t streamed Amazing Things yet, now is the time. Don Broco has always been an absolutely insane band, the band will be hitting the states on a full-run tour next year and it’ll be a tour that you don’t want to miss. Purchase those tickets and get ready to get rowdy with the Broco boys.
