NEW MUSIC FRIDAY (on saturday): state champs, the summer set, wage war, and more

We’ve all grown very accustomed to receiving new music from bands all on a Friday, this week at the start of every morning we got tons of new releases from a variety of bands and it’s been possibly the best thing that we could get.

Starting off with State Champs, a band that I believe definitely has made its mark in the pop-punk scene and one of the few bands that just happens to be everyone’s favorite and if not then they at least know who the band is. We last got the Unplugged EP that was filled with songs that pulled at our heart strings and a couple of acoustic renditions of their hit songs, it was just one of those humble EPs that I think we needed to hear at the time of the pandemic. As the music industry starts to gain it’s buzz again, State Champs picks up from the sound that they gave us in Living Proof, which was an album that I believe was a turning point for the band and gave them the feeling that they finally found their sound. The song is filled with a catchy hook that I can already see getting the crowd pumped and filled with energy, when really listening to the lyrics I believe part of the meaning comes from being inspired with how the world had to adjust to social distancing and not being able to have that physical connection with loved ones. This song is a certified banger and a great pick me up if you need a little bit of that sound.

Earlier we received a single from Wage War which was High Horse, which definitely reminded us of the material that came from the band earlier on when they first formed. This week we got Circle The Drain which falls along more with their recent work off their album Pressure that came out in 2019, however there is no doubt there’s still a heavier element still existing within the album the song has the perfect blend of heavy and clean vocals. Along with releasing the single, the band had announced the upcoming release of their next album, MANIC which will drop on October 1st. With these two singles it’s a toss-up on whether we will get something to connect with their older material or something that will continue on with their newer stuff, despite the small difference between the two songs there’s no doubt that Wage War is ready to make their mark this year with new music.

A few years back The Summer Set announced their hiatus, and considering how most bands handle that, we weren’t sure whether or not we would actually hear back from the band. After five whole years of stepping away from the scene, the band came back full force with the release of their newest single Street Lightning. The sound of the song brings us right back to their material from their last released album, Stories For Monday which was what we received from the band. Street Lightning definitely tries to reach for the reckless youth days from crazy summer nights, it almost feels like they picked up right where they left off from the last album. We’re definitely on edge now to see and wear what will come next, and the inner punk within some of us is reignited, for now Street Lightning will be enough and diving back into their old anthems until we get more!

Lastly, Can’t Swim has definitely kept things interesting through 2020, they released an EP that was very experimental and had a sound to it that no one else was honestly ever expecting from them. However, the band admitted it wasn’t their official sound and they just wanted to get really creative and play around with that type of sound, the EP was very much falling along the lines of Bring Me the Horizon, Post Human. With their latest single, Deliver Us More Evil. They reminded us that the EP was just temporary, and they return back to their American rock sound, adding onto the release of this latest single the band has announced that their new album will be releasing on October 22, Change of Plans. It sounds like we may be getting more of their sound back on this album but they definitely aren’t afraid to change things up, there is no doubt they can make any sound work for their band.

After reflecting on this week, it’s definitely reminding us that music is back and coming in full force. Tons of bands announcing albums and releasing new music, after almost a year of wishing for new music we’re finally getting it and every song that was released is a certified banger so queue up your playlist and check out these new releases, you just may find yourself a new favorite!
