REVIEW: tails by silver relics

Silver Relics is a psych-rock band formed by New York based songwriter Alex Sepassi and debuted their first album in 2019 titled Generic. So far there is only one full album aside from this new release which means we get to be fans from the beginning of their career. It’s like having our own version of what it was like to watch rock flourish as it was happening. Their sound is heavily influenced by songwriters from the 60s/70s accompanied by 80s indie rock. On August 6th 2021, Silver Relics released a new single, “Tails”.

The first thought that came to mind when listening to “Tails” was that it had a similar sound to “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry. From what the lyrics might be suggesting is when you see a friend who needs a mental break, psychedelics are something to experiment with. When I listen to this song I’m transported to a different time, where Penny Lane would have been my best friend and life was about living for the music and for the moment. If I you close your eyes and daydream hard enough you can sit next to Penny and I on the tour bus, right where we should be.

For those that desperately wanted to be in their 20s to see bands like The Beach Boys and Simon & Garfunkel in the late sixties and seventies like I wish I could have, Silver Relics is the band to listen to.
