REVIEW: short song by beldams

Beldams, led by Maui’s own Colin England, is a pop punk/alternative rock band heavily influenced by Blink-182’s sound. While having only entered the scene in 2019 with his single “christmas is not the same (This Is Not Hollywood)” and with an EP out with a collection of his recent releases, Beldams is a band to watch for. Today, September 17th, Beldams released their newest single “SHORT SONG”.

“SHORT SONG” is just that, a one minute twenty-second song conveying Colin’s struggles and frustrations as an independent artist. The song makes me think it could be the theme song for your next favorite show, the way Bowling for Soup did the theme song for Phineas and Ferb (which is a classic and you know that). The lyric “worked on those songs for a year, for no streams” is referring to an EP that Colin released only for no one to listen to it. The last line of the song says “My next song is Emotional Zombie” as a sort of announcement to what you can look forward to seeing from Beldams. I think this song is more of a refresher for Beldams, like a reminder that the music they create is for them and if people listen to it and connect then that’s awesome but if not it won’t stop them from creating. Personally, I think almost every artist (musician or not) can completely relate to those moments where you question if you should keep creating or not.

In short (haha get it), KEEP CREATING. Beldams has so much ahead of them in terms of where their music can take them and I know I'm ready to pre-save “Emotional Zombie” the second the link is posted.
