Every Time I Die released “Post-Boredom” today, August 17th, and have recently announced a new album coming, Radical, for October 22nd 2021. For those that haven’t heard Every Time I Die before, they are a hardcore-punk band based in Buffalo, NY. If you are into bands like Bring Me The Horizon or Falling In Reverse it is definitely worth it to check out this band too.
“Post-Boredom” is the song Keith Buckley, ETID’s vocalist and lyricist, refers to as “the first song I ever wrote that gave me the feeling of real Truth” and notes it is “reflective but… detached” which I think explains it pretty well. It almost sends me into a dissociative state, like you are self aware of what you are doing and saying but it doesn’t match who you are or who you are trying to become. I think the reflective lyrics with the hardcore-punk sound only simulates the anger of someone who is living a life they don’t want would feel. I think at some point everyone has this moment sooner or later where you say “fuck it” and live your life they way you’ve been wanting to regardless of how others feel about it. That’s punk if I've ever heard it.
I think for “Post-Boredom” to be one of the tracks on the new album, especially considering it’s been five years since their last album, and to have its message be that turning point where you decide to only live authentically is a big moment for them as a band and for the future of their music. Expect a change to say the least.
