REVIEW: poloech: the titan of massacre by omnisium

Omnisium is a South Florida based deathcore band that formed in 2018 and is signed to Hollowed Records. Their symphonic sound is influenced by video game soundtracks like Dark Souls. Similar bands to Omnisium include Fleshgod Apocalypse, The Faceless, and Fit For An Autopsy. Omnisium is still very early in their career with only one EP and four singles released so if you’re looking to expand your music taste, they’re one to follow.

The first roughly 30 seconds of “Poloech: The Titan of Massacre” sent my mind into a dark ages film. The scene where your army has been ambushed, soldiers are running in a panic, things are exploding in every direction, and you’re watching the chaos unfold in slow motion until you snap back into reality and realize you need to fight back. As someone who isn’t entirely well versed in the deathcore genre, this was an interesting yet pleasing introduction. The lyrics “Slaughter those who fight or flee. For this is a sacred tribute to me” however leads me to believe that this army is the one doing the ambushing to please Poloech who I assume is the one giving orders. The entire song feels like a scary legend that is passed through generations, which personally is why I like it.

While I think that deathcore is one of those “acquired taste” genres, I also am a big believer in experiencing as much variety as you can and appreciating the journey of music in general that allows us to have so many genre options.
