The Columbus, Ohio based band Sera Safe is back with another single for the year “Yesterday Felt Warmer”. Immediately, a nostalgic atmosphere is given with slow guitar and synth notes that suddenly pick up the pace with hard hitting drums and lead guitar shining through. A feeling that there’s a memory that you’re searching for but can’t quite pick up on it is given off, which makes sense as the opening lyric “I’ve learned to let every memory fade as the sun sets” is softly sung over an upbeat tom groove. Switching back and forth between singing and screaming keeps things interesting; the singing is able to continue that nostalgic vibe, and the screaming adds a chaos element from the metalcore-like syncopation with the double bass hits and low-toned guitar parts that are headbang worthy. This can be seen as a great song live with it’s energetic beat and moments for the crowd to shout back “As we fade into nothing” towards the end. Overall, it’s a solid single and I’m excited to see what else this band has to offer in the future.
