REVIEW: tug of war by wave break

Wave Break is back with a new EP, due out in fall 2021, and “Tug of War” gives us a sneak peak at what we’ll be seeing from the New Jersey-based band. Following up from the 2018 EP release “Armory”, the alternative rock sound is being carried over as vocalist Kelly Barber discusses the topic of putting yourself first before anyone else and what happens when you don’t. The single brings out upbeat instrumentals, such as the lead guitar shining through, bass guitar parts that lay the foundation and punchy snare and bass drums, that keep the songs driving forward and the audience engaged. The vocal melodies make for good sing-along songs, but the lyrics are what caught my attention the most. For “Tug of War”, they are a good reminder to make sure you are doing okay before you try to pour out any energy to anyone else; your own health, physical or mental, is always most important when it comes to friendships, relationships, etc. With this single, it looks like Wave Break is doubling down on their sound with a little more maturity and we could expect to see more of this for their upcoming release.
