REVIEW: obsessions by fire by night

If you’re in the mood for one of those slower-impact hard rock songs, give a listen to Fire by Night’s new single “Obsessions”. The Phoenix-based group brings up the topic of mental health as the lyrics portray the subject struggling to see a future for themselves. Thoughts of themselves are considered “obsessions” by other people when the subject opens up about them, and I’m sure plenty of people out there can relate to that situation. Musically, the soft electric guitars with the mostly halftime drum beat set up the gloomy atmosphere that keeps the structure flowing through its entirety. The ending of the second chorus will leave you with goosebumps as it ends with a vocal note lasting 8 seconds long. The slow emotional build up to the guitar solo will also have you feeling some type of way, like you’re searching for some purpose in the midst of all the negative thoughts and feelings. I was genuinely surprised by this track and I’m sure you will too. Make sure to go check it out and keep an eye out as they’re planning to release 3 more songs by mid-2022!
