REVIEW: godhead by veil of maya

Today, Veil of Maya has graced us with brand new single “Godhead.” The synth-heavy follow up to “Synthwave Vegan” immediately starts out with something that sounds oddly similar to what you would have heard in an early 2000s racing video game. We are then met with vocals and a bouncy guitar riff that we will continue to hear throughout the song. This track is one that showcases vocalist Lukas Magyar’s extensive vocal range. With the contrast of the highs and the lows, we are kept on our toes the entire time throughout “Godhead.” The prominent synth aspects provide us with a unique layer that meshes this very well with the previous release. We are soon led to what I can only describe as a chaotic solo on guitar that continues to make me feel as though I am stuck in an action video game. Following, we get low and slow Veil of Maya with, again, an amazing showcase of vocal range. The song then goes quiet before it briefly comes back to end.

We were left with news that details of the new album are soon to come, and to say I am excited is a gross understatement. As someone who adores their most recent album, “False Idol,” I do not think I would be alone in saying a new full length from the Chicago natives is long overdue. Only releasing six singles since the 2017 release of “False Idol” with the first single, “Members Only,” coming in 2019, I am ecstatic to see what the band has been working on with this time.
